Me ha pasado esto un par de veces hasta ahora, no estoy seguro de lo que está pasando. Creo que tiene que ver con tener un monitor externo conectado a la notebook.
Mi flujo de trabajo habitual es cerrar la sesión del MBP por la mañana para que TimeMachine haga una copia de seguridad de mi directorio de inicio de FileVaulted. Desconecto todo (concentrador USB, monitor externo, alimentación) y le digo al MBP que se duerma, luego cierro la tapa.
Uso el sistema durante el día y cuando llego a casa vuelvo a conectar el USB y la pantalla externa.
Dos veces en unas pocas semanas, la pantalla de la pantalla LCD externa se volvió blanca y la pantalla integrada se volvió completamente azul, sin pánico en el kernel, sin errores mostrados, nada. Me veo obligado a apagarlo manteniendo presionado el botón de encendido y luego reiniciarlo.
Anoche me lo hizo. Tenía mi correo electrónico/navegador web abierto y me senté, toqué el mouse y las pantallas simplemente saltaron a blanco sólido y el integrado a azul sólido.
La última vez que recuerdo que sucedió esto, tenía Spaces habilitado y pensé que había un problema con el monitor externo conectado con Spaces habilitado (creo que el bloqueo ocurrió después de que el MBP se durmió durante la noche, se conectó a la alimentación y lo desperté en el mañana para que se vuelva loco) Desactivé Spaces y parecía ser más estable, ya que no recordaba que sucediera durante bastante tiempo.
Abrí los registros del servidor de Windows para el momento del bloqueo y solo encontré esto (el reinicio fue cerca de las 7:15 p.m.):

Running (currently) 10.6.5, all updates according to the update utility, and I ran the permission fix and disk check after the previous crash. No filesystem errors were detected, although it did change some permissions.

Aunque no menciona el modelo de MBP correcto que tiene (año/modelo/etc.), he tenido problemas similares causados por fallas en la tarjeta gráfica. Esto comenzó a suceder "un día" y luego sucedió cada vez con más frecuencia, pero en lugares aleatorios, lo que me dificultó descubrir qué era. Terminé en una Apple Store y tuvieron que reemplazar la placa (que aún estaba en garantía).
Yo diría que lo lleves a una Apple Store para que lo revisen.
